The Sustainable Land Initiative began in 2021 as a collaboration between RCDs, private businesses, landowners and local government agencies with a goal to identify the most effective process for accelerating the adoption of sustainable practices on working and natural lands. 

In 2022, the Upper Salinas-Las Tablas Resource Conservation District successfully piloted SLI, boosting participation from local landowners and agencies, diversifying project funding sources and expanding SLI to other RCDs in the Central Coast region.
